Baroness Cox Asks Foreign and Commonwealth Office About Sudan Peace Negotiations

Baroness Cox used a written question to ask Her Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to ensure that the government of Sudan upholds its ceasefire agreements in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States. Asked by Baroness Cox on: 16 October 2017 (HL2016)

Answered on 30th Oct by: Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon on behalf of Foreign and Commonwealth Office:  The UK welcomes the reduction in conflict between government forces and the armed opposition in the Two Areas in recent months, as well as the extension by the government of Sudan of the unilateral cessation of hostilities until 31 December 2017. In the most recent round of the UK-Sudan Strategic Dialogue on 16 October, we urged the Government of Sudan to extend this further. We continue to urge both sides to engage constructively with the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) peace process in order to agree upon a permanent ceasefire and unfettered humanitarian access.
